RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ICAN CITIES APPEAL SUPPORTING THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS
WHEREAS, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) has received the Nobel Peace Prize for its work on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, an agreement that prohibits the use, production and stockpiling of nuclear weapons and lays the foundations for their total elimination; and
WHEREAS, any use of nuclear weapons, whether deliberate or accidental, would be a disaster for our planet, negatively affecting worldwide climate change as well as the world’s and our community resident’s health and environment; and
WHEREAS, our residents have the right to live in a world free from the threat of the use of nuclear weapons.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of -------- does hereby endorse the ICAN Cities Appeal supporting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and calls on our government to sign and ratify the Treaty.
